For the time being, the fundamental essentials for health--clean air, clean water, sound nutrition, room for exercise, etc--are a commons in the industrialized West, despite the most recent attempts by Bill Gates, John Doerr, Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, et alia, to use climate change to seize these into private commodities.site
Would it not be natural to declare that the entire health care system be turned into a commons as it was in the United Kingdom in the 1950s or in France, or in Sweden? Rather than continuing to graft more bad but profitable (for insurers) legislation onto an existing system that causes us to have the highest tax expenditures per capita in health in the world, should we not declare the current unfathomable, redundantly administered, and inefficient model too broken to fix?
